How images are sourced, licensed and credited, and how to request a takedown.
How images are sourced
Every image used on this site has a recorded rights record before it is published: who created it, under what licence, where it came from, and whether commercial use and modification are permitted under that licence. An image without a complete, checked rights record is not used, regardless of how relevant it is to a story.
Attribution
Where a licence requires attribution, the photographer or rights holder is credited wherever the image appears, using the wording that licence requires. Cropping or resizing an image is recorded as part of its rights history alongside the original source.
Requesting a takedown
If you hold the rights to an image used on this site and believe it has been used incorrectly, or you would like it removed, contact the site through contact with a link to the page and a description of your rights in the image. A verified takedown request is actioned promptly and the image is not reintroduced without resolving the underlying rights question.
